Catholics Applaud Civil Marriage Equality Victory in Maryland

Group Says Pro-Equality Catholic Leadership Made Historic Victory Possible

ANNAPOLIS - Catholics for Equality, the country's largest national political organization of Catholics who put their faith into ethical and effective political action on behalf of the LGBT community and their families, representing the views of over 75 million American Catholics, released the following statement in response to tonight's passage of marriage equality legislation by the Maryland House of Delegates:

Catholics for Equality congratulates the hard work of our state chapter, Maryland Catholics for Equality, which was part of the Marylanders for Marriage Equality coordinated campaign, on today's victory in the Maryland House of Delegates. We would also like to applaud Catholic Governor Martin O'Malley, Catholic Speaker Michael Busch, and Catholic Delegate Heather Mizeur for your determined leadership on this issue. Maryland joins New York, Washington and New Hampshire in showing the nation that when pro-equality Catholics speak out and take the lead, equality wins!
