The Shameful Rhetoric of the "Catholic" Family and Human Rights Institute (C-Fam)

Austin Ruse of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-Fam)

Catholics for Equality would like to thank our friends at People for the American Way (PFAW)  for making public this disturbing presentation by the "Catholic" Family and Human Rights Institute (C-Fam) at this weekend's CPAC conference in Washington, DC.   It's important that our faith community knows exactly what shameful rhetoric is being espoused in our name by C-Fam's president, Austin Ruse.

As reported by PFAW:

During a CPAC panel on supposed U.S. spending "to promote abortion and homosexuality worldwide," Austin Ruse of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-Fam), attacked protections for people based on their sexual orientation and gender identity in United Nations studies on violence and execution. Ruse first lamented that an initially-removed reference to sexual orientation was restored to a resolution condemning summary, extrajudicial and arbitrary executions, and went on to bemoan a decision by the Human Rights Council to study "discriminatory laws and practices and acts of violence against individuals based on their sexual orientation and gender identity, in all regions of the world." He argued that such a resolution is "just the nose of the camel under the tent" and lashed out at supporters of LGBT rights, maintaining that "their theory of international law is that it's done by lying, coercion and trickery."

Shameful!

That a group, claiming to be Christian-based, would speak out against efforts to stop the execution of and violence against other human beings is unacceptable.  That this group claims to be a Catholic group is beyond shameful!

These are not the teachings of Jesus.  These are not the teachings of our church!

It is reprehensible that an organization that claims to fight for "human dignity" would advise governmental leaders to respond to violence and oppression across the globe by preventing the public from learning about it.  Is the "Catholic" Family and Human Rights Institute fighting for "human dignity" or the promotion of genocide?  One thing is for sure, they should not be allowed to use the name "Catholic."

Please join Catholics for Equality in denouncing this shameful group!
